Bio

I was born in Paris, raised in Connecticut and college-educated in Madison, Wisc. before cutting my corporate teeth for three years in the New York City advertising industry. An abrupt career change, a cattle-ranch sabbatical and a few grad-school applications later, here I am in Southern California, master’s degree in hand, looking to re-enter the media world as a web content producer.
If nothing else, those three-plus years in the advertising industry armed me with a strong background in account management and project coordination (to say nothing of the invaluable exposure to corporate structures and office politics). I worked and thrived in agencies big and small, from a 500-employee corporate behemoth down to a privately owned 20-person boutique. I helped manage several big-name accounts (Dr Pepper, NFL, Tic Tac and Glenfiddich) and contributed to the development of countless television, print, radio and digital campaigns in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting.
But account management, while challenging and interesting, wasn’t necessarily a passion. I longed for more creativity, and after toying with the idea of moving to the creative side of the industry, decided to instead cut the cord on advertising and apply to graduate schools. I landed at USC's Annenberg Graduate School for Communication, where I earned a master’s degree in Online Journalism.
The USC curriculum provided a hands-on crash course in writing, reporting, editing and producing content for print, broadcast and new media, and as an Online major my focus turned to web production, multimedia presentation and interactive marketing. I became fluent in staple graphics and production tools (Photoshop, Flash, Soundslides, Visio, Wordpress, Movable Type, e.g.) and have produced live websites from scratch with text editors using HTML, CSS, Javascript and some PHP.
In addition to my studies I served as Executive Editor/Web Producer for a student-run digital news startup, Neon Tommy, where I managed and trained a staff of 40 and presided over all day-to-day posting operations within a customized (and finicky) CMS and a virtual newsroom powered by Google Docs. I am also an excellent copy editor and all-around grammar geek, which of course came into play, albeit thanklessly, in the Executive Editor role. Other jobs held during my time at USC included script writing for a music news show at Current TV and working as a staff writer for the Online Journalism Review (ojr.org).
My degree hot off the press, I am eager to put my digital production, editing and writing skills to work. I thrive in a team environment, and look forward to contributing to a production department at an exciting online media organization.
